Coming to Our Senses: Writing the Body's Wisdom
Two-day workshop sponsored by the Institute for the Advancement of Service in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia
Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13.
9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day
This workshop for men and women uses Centered Writing Practice™, a body-centered freewriting technique, to explore the body as the storehouse of memories.
Description
"When we insist on seeking an intellectual understanding to a problem rather than listening to the body's intelligence, we experience creative aridity or a complete block of the creative process." Peggy Tabor Millin, Women, Writing, & Soul-Making.
The body is the receptor of sensory experience as well as the storehouse for memories. In this two-day writing workshop you will
learn to drop into the creative center in your body and befriend the images and words of the writer within. You will learn to employ Centered Writing Practice (a body-centered freewriting technique) to write together using words, pictures, and objects as prompts; meditation; and contemplation. You will be given assignments to practice individually outside, weather permitting.
Creativity is a gift accessed by letting go of restraint, not something reserved for a special few. Take an empty-handed leap into pure inspiration! Come with an open mind and blank notebook and leave with an open heart and pages of inspiration. The only requirement is your willingness to unleash the power of your body's wisdom.
