Lake Logan is 40 miles west of Asheville, NC.

Description

This 3-day stay provides the opportunity to experience a fearless writing retreat. Mornings in group you will practice using Centered Writing Practice to inspire new material and to explore writing tools and craft. Feedback is supportive and positive. The choice of tools and craft introduced is tailored to the needs of individuals in the group. Afternoons, you have time for writing and naps, hiking, swimming,June LL 07 Pier and/or canoeing.  Meals and the pre-dinner gathering provide time to socialize and share your writing journey with other participants. Each evening group meeting will focus on a particular topic like sensory description, dialogue, or publication.  Participants are also invited to sign up for opportunities to read from what they are writing in the afternoons or from a current project. Location

Thirty miles west of Asheville in Canton, NC,  Lake Logan Conference Center  is nestled at the foot of Cold Mountain in a quiet valley between the Pisgah National Forest and the Shining Rock Wilderness in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Operated by the Episcopal Diocese of Western Lake Logan DuskNorth Carolina, Lake Logan offers 300 acres for hiking, canoeing, swimming, and other recreational opportunities. Imagine the mountain lake reflecting the surrounding forest on a background of pure blue. If beauty inspires, we are destined to become poets! We'll meet by the stone fireplace in a living room setting or, if weather permits, on the porch overlooking the lake. Take the video tour at www.lakelogan.org.

Accommodations and Meals

Sit'nWhittle cabin Lake LoganEach cabin has 4 bedrooms, and contains 2 twin beds and a private bath and a common space with microwave, refrigerator, and coffeemaker. Single occupancy only of bedrooms for this retreat. No TV or cell phone service. A single telephone is in each cabin's common space; use is for emergency only. Although internet service is available in the administration building, email use is discouraged during the retreat.

Buffet style meals are served in the dining hall, a mile across the scenic Pigeon River.

Time

Check in at 4:00 pm Thursday, June 19.  ClarityWorks program ends Saturday, June 21.
Check out of rooms after breakfast  Sunday, June 22.

Registration Procedures

  • LL June Group

  • Peggy will contact you for a phone appointment to discuss your writing and what you wish to get from the retreat.
  • Submit no more than 3 pages double spaced of your writing by email. It need not be polished. The purpose of this submission is to acquaint Peggy with where you are in your writing so she can assess your needs and the needs of the group.

Cost

$647 provides a private room for 3 nights, all meals and the program. A private individual session can be scheduled with Peggy during the retreat. The fee is $60 for a half hour. This fee includes reading, but not critiquing, 5 pages of double-spaced  text that can be used as the focus of the session.  Sunday morning conferences are available.

Early Bird Price: $647 if registered with nonrefundable deposit of $375  by April 21.  Registration is confirmed only by receipt of deposit or full payment.

Oct04LLgroup.jpgRegular Price: $697 after April 21.  If registering between April 21 and May 19, $375  is required upon registration; if registering after May 19, full payment is required.

Final Payment Date: May 19.  Registration remains open until spaces are filled.

You may pay by check or be invoiced through PayPal on request. On PayPal, you will be charged an additional 2.9% of the total as a processing fee; it will be noted as a shipping charge.

No partial attendance or commuter attendance is allowed.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

Deposits are nonrefundable.  No refunds will be given. No exceptions can be made.

The full amount will be retained if registration is cancelled after May 19.

A full refund will be given if ClarityWorks cancels the retreat.

Other: Lake Logan Center offers as much, or as little, activity as you desire. You may choose contemplative walks along pristine trails or fishing for trophy class  bass, crappie, trout and walleye. You may also enjoy boating, canoeing, swimming, hiking along forest service roads, volleyball, and tennis. The swimming Lake Logan Canoesarea and boats are available to us when not in use by the boys' camp program. Please take the time to read the conference center website www.lakelogan.org
